Team Participation & Registration FAQ

Why a Team?

Team participation gives quality to the event, makes it a lot more fun, and gives your team the opportunity to win some great prizes. Awards will be given to the largest team, the fastest team, and the team that raises the most sponsorship money!

Who can form a Team?

Anyone may create a team. They will be any group of 2 or more individuals who are interested in running or walking together. They can be made up for friends, family, coworkers (either in a specific company, branch, or department), social club members, youth or other church groups, and more!

How do I form a team?

• First you will need to get a Team Packet from HOPE. Team packets may be downloaded from this site on the Registration Page. (Please see info below for having packets mailed out to you!)

• Recruit your Team's members by hanging flyers & posters at work, church, school or wherever your team meets on a day to day basis.

• The Team Leader (which is you if you are the one putting the team together) will need to fill out the Team Registration Form found in the Team Packet.

• All recruits/members need to fill out the Individual Registration Form which can be found on the Registration Page.

• You MUST turn in the Team Registration Form and each member's Individual Registration Form, along with each member's registration fees by April 25th,2008.

• Encourage all members of your team to solicit funds by having people sponsor them for walking/running. Have each Team Member keep a record of all money donated then fill out the Sponsorship Log in your Team Packet to be turned in at check in on race day.

• Collect all of the money & sponsorship forms from your members and bring them with you to event check-in.

Team Ideas & Tips

Team Leaders

• Set a goal for the number of members you want to have and the amount of money that you want to raise and communicate that to your team members.

• Educate your team about HOPE and what it does. Information on HOPE can be found by visiting the HOPE website.

• Make sure that each team member fills out the Individual Registration Form and make sure they have a Sponsorship Form to keep track of their donations. (Those forms are printable here.) You will need to collect all Individual Registration Forms from your members, along with their registration fees, and turn them in with your Team Registration Form by April 25, 2008.

• Pump up your team members for fun and success! Remind them often of the reason that they are doing this and that the team can win prizes for outstanding performance!

Team Members

• Although it is not easy to ask for money from friends, family and other associates, remember that you are not asking for yourself. You are asking for donations to a very worthy cause! Every penny you collect will go straight to the HOPE where it will be used for cancer research and patient services!

• Call, email, or write to all of your friends and family If you can get just 10 people to each send you $10 that is $100 that you have raised for HOPE! If you have a team of 10 people then your team will raise a total of $1000!

• When appropriate, ask your employer, company or a church leader to match the funds that you raise! You would be surprised at how often companies will do that!

• All of your Sponsorship Forms and money can be turned in to your Team Leader who will then give it to the race administrators at check-in the day of the race.
