About Battle For HOPE Heather Ridley Fleeman Battle for HOPE began four years ago – inspired by a group of committed family and friends of Heather Ridley Fleeman. Heather died in 2004 at the young age of 28 after a long battle with colon cancer. This group decided to partner with HOPE, Inc., a local nonprofit agency dedicated to helping oncology patients excel through financial and emotional assistance and the promotion and development of clinical trials research. All proceeds from the Battle for HOPE benefit HOPE’s services including, direct financial assistance for basic housing and transportation needs as well as for prescription medication. HOPE also has 12 clinical trials open – expanding opportunities for cancer research right here in Northwest Arkansas. During her life, Heather, who was a member of the Walmart supplier community, was dedicated to supporting agencies like HOPE that work to help cancer patients during treatment while at the same time looking to tomorrow by conducting state-of-the-art cancer research that is locally accessible. The Heather Ridley Fleeman Battle for HOPE is a Run/Walk event held the first Saturday in May each year, at the Old Tiger Stadium site in Bentonville. This event truly has something for everyone is great for the whole family. In 2008, the Battle for HOPE will include a 10K, 5K, Family Fun Walk and Kids Race. Activities begin at 8:00 a.m. and registration starts at 6:30 a.m. Individual runners and walkers as well as teams are encouraged to participate. Sponsorships are available as well. For more information about the event, please call HOPE at 479.571.4673 or email information@hopenwa.org |
